RMTD announces public hearing dates

Rides Mass Transit District and Jackson County Mass Transit District are general public transportation providers receiving Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Section 5307 (49 U.S.C. § 5307) funding for urbanized areas providing capital, operating and planning assistance for mass transportation. This program was initiated by the Surface Transportation Act of 1982 and became FTA's primary transit assistance program in FY 1984.

 

Rides Mass Transit District and Jackson County Mass Transit District provide public transportation in the Carbondale urbanized area. A copy of the IL FY 19 Program of Projects for the Carbondale UZA and all applications for Federal Transit Administration Section 5307 and Section 5310 funding will be made available for public inspection at the hearings. As a requirement of their funding public hearings will be held:

 

June 5, 1 p.m., Man-Tra-Con, Illinois Star Centre Mall, 3000 W. Deyoung St., Marion, IL 62959

 

June 15, 9 a.m., SIU Student Center North #2, 1255 Lincoln Dr., Carbondale, IL 62901

 

June 25, 5:30 p.m., Carbondale Civic Center Rm. 116, 200 S. Illinois Ave., Carbondale, IL 62901

 

FTA Section 5307 Funding amounts requested in the proposed Program of Projects:

 

Rides Mass Transit District- operating assistance in the amount of $703,691

 

Jackson County Mass Transit District – operating assistance in the amount of $382,536

 

FTA Section 5310 Demonstration- Mobility Management 2017 -:

 

Rides Mass Transit District -$518,844

 

At the hearings, the Rides Mass Transit District and Jackson County Mass Transit District will afford an opportunity for interested persons or agencies to be heard with respect to the social, economic, and environmental aspects of the project. Interested persons may submit orally or in writing evidence and recommendations with respect to said projects. This may be done in person at the hearing, by phone at 618-253-8761 or by US mail.

 

The Rides Mass Transit District and the Jackson County Mass Transit District request that any hearing-impaired person wishing to attend this Public Hearing notify Rides Mass Transit District 618-253-8761 at least one week before the scheduled hearing date so that arrangements can be made to provide an interpreter.
