HARRISBURG- The past 16 years have witnessed a new paradigm at Rides Mass Transit District after Chief Operating Officer Debra King joined the team. King’s former experience and knowledge with the public school bus industry in Western Indiana supplied RMTD with new partnerships and opportunities to grow.

King is set to retire July 1 and has left her mark on public transportation across southeastern and east central Illinois.

“A caring and thoughtful professional, she has led with the very essence of service to the communities we serve,” said RMTD CEO Bill Jung. “While she has many work-related accomplishments, I know she most appreciates events that highlight the synergy between transit and the community. Her leadership on regional clinics and transportation for the Veteran Honor Flights are some recent examples.”
King has engraved this impression among many who have had the chance of knowing her.

Former RMTD public relations coordinator Carletta Hanks has known King for more than 10 years, and mentioned it's her caring personality that stands out.

“She is a person of high integrity," said Hanks. "She cares about every person and will go above and beyond to make sure the customers have a good experience.”

Hanks spoke of King’s dedication to not only community partners and customers, but also to the employees.

“She always handled every problem encountered and made herself available," said Hanks. "Her retirement is very well deserved.”

King says she plans on spending time with her grandchildren and visiting friends and family throughout the region upon retirement.

Everyone at RMTD wishes King the best in the next chapter of her life.
