Who doesn't like saving money? Gas prices can be hard to predict and using public transportation can be a way for everyone to keep some extra dough in their pocket.

Rides Mass Transit District, which serves 18 counties in southern and east central Illinois, is celebrating National Dump the Pump Day, Thursday, June 16. Rides is encouraging everyone to save money and choose public transportation.

The American Public Transportation Association estimates a two-person household that reduces to one car can save an average of $9,000 a year.

Public transportation also has a positive impact on the local economy. Residents are able to use RMTD services to shop, travel to work or school, connect to other forms of mass transit or even go to doctor appointments.

Rides Mass Transit District buses travel nearly 3.7 million miles each year and transport over 685,000 residents annually. More information about money saving transit passes, discount tickets and a fare savings calculator can be found by heading to our website or by calling your local Rides dispatch office.
