HARRISBURG- Rides Mass Transit District, the largest rural public transportation provider in Illinois, is celebrating National Dump the Pump Day, Thursday, June 21, by encouraging everyone to use public transportation.
With unpredictable fuel prices, convenience is something RMTD offers.
Studies suggest the average household spends 18 cents of every dollar on transportation with a great majority devoted to buying, maintaining and operating vehicles.
"It's important for us to be able to provide such a service to the individuals and families in the communities we serve," said RMTD CEO Bill Jung. "Our staff takes pride in getting individuals to work, college, medical appointments and by creating access for individuals to get to where they need to be."
RMTD buses travel nearly four million miles each year and transport over 700,000 people annually.
The event is sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association.
More information about the available services can be found by heading to our website or by contacting the local RMTD Operation Center in your area.
